Army Crawling
Julianna this week has taken off with her Army Crawl. She has mastered her ability to pull herself along with her hands and though her legs are not helping much it is like watching someone mimic swimming in a pool as she kicks her legs this way and that, very cute! Included are some pictures we took today/this morning.

Julianna Goes to the Park
Nice, warm days in the middle of January are rare. So with this short "warm-up" Papa and I decided to take Julianna to the park for the first time. She had a blast and so did we!
P.S. Julianna had her first fall this week and skinned her nose -- you may notice her boo boo in some of the pics
Julianna Starts Solid Foods
At Julianna's four month appointment with the pediatrician we were given the green light to start her on some solid foods. Over the last two weeks or so she has been getting better and better. Now, she can't wait for that spoon and reaches for my hand as I pull it away to get more. Her favorites so far are butternut squash, green beans and peaches. With peaches being her very most favorite -- could be related to the hundreds of peaches mommy at while pregnant with Julianna!. In addition, she continues to love sitting in her high chair. I think she like the independence and likes how high she is off the ground.
Baby High Chair
Mommy got Julianna a cute "Grow with me" high chair which arrived yesterday and was a quick hit with Julianna. She really likes the independence it gives though it is a major milestone and looking at her sitting up in a chair of any sorts gives thoughts and the realization that our little baby is growing up quick. Here are a couple pictures from last night. As always click on the pictures or hover for the captions.

Tears of a Baby
Last week Julianna's tear ducts started producing and excreting tears so the phrase "Big Tears" now has true meaning as when she is very upset (which never happens right?) she will shed a tear or two. The phrase "Big Tears" for me dates back to when my sisters Kelly and Abigail were young and meant that it wasn't a tantrum or attention cry but a real cry of pain or desperation usually for food, sleep, or both. In mama and papa's defense we need a second set of arms and hands so that we can hold her AND make her a bottle when it's just one of us as Jaybird can get a bit tetchy when it is feeding or sleep time. Soon or just a minute is never quick enough. And though I usually like posting pictures, we don't have pictures of jaybird crying. 🙂

Julianna Giggles.
When Julianna was first born, I did not know that babies have to learn how to smile. They have no concept of what a smile is or why one would make such an expression. Why this was concerning is that I love kids and one of my trade marks is when I see kids in stores or meet kids for the first time I work to instantly bond with them and get them to smile. It is fun and a challenge but I mostly do it because I see a lot of kids that are getting ignored and want to give them a little attention if only for a brief moment in time. Julianna learned early on how to smile and also to smile back at you not so long ago, but this weekend Julianna me a happy papa when I was able for the first time not only to make Julianna smile and giggle, but to giggle at my laughter. It is one thing to make a baby laugh by tickling or making a face, it is another to have them laugh when you laugh, and that is was what was unique: Julianna laughing with her dada. It was a shared moment I shall never forget.

Kickin’ and Grinin’
Today Julianna played her "foot piano" for the first time. It took her only a few kicks to learn that she was making the music and she loved it. Also, she couldn't resist reaching for the toys suspended on the arch over her. Just had to get her on video exploring her first play mat.

Grandpa Steve and Grandma Annie Come to Visit
Grandpa Steve and Grandma Clay flew all the way from Houston to come meet me this weekend. It was so wonderful to get to spend four days with them. On Saturday Great Uncle Herman drove over from Greensboro to see his sister Annie and to meet me. Grandma Callicutt also came over from Asheboro! We had burgers and dogs on the grill and finished it all off with a hot-from-the-oven peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream! We can't wait for Steve and Annie to come back again! Thanks for keeping me while mommy and daddy went out for a nice dinner!
Our Family Photos
The first photos of our now family of three have been taken! So sweet -- seems like we waited forever for our little girl to arrive!
Kissin’ Cousins
Today my sister, Renee, visited Raleigh with her new baby Ava and Ava's big sister Rachel. This is the first time Ava and Julianna have met. They are about three and half weeks apart in age. Ava was born on May 16th and Julianna on June 10th. We had so much fun watching them and comparing new baby stories. How exciting to have two new babies in the family -- I know we will make so many memories together in the future!
